The Rak nodes sip power so they are often suggested for solar nodes. With a 100 watt panel though you could use a heltec maybe? But I'm not sure you really gain anything by doing that.

So with MQTT it's using your phone data, so if it disconnects it won't recieve the messages while it's disconnected unless the sender is within RF range. So that COULD be the problem.
